About the Swedish Driving Theory Test 

The Swedish Transport Administration conducts the Swedish Driving Theory to determine your theoretical knowledge of road rules. The theory test is also known as the knowledge test. Before you take the knowledge test, you must complete the risk training part 1 and skid training, and the test is valid for up to four months. 

In order to get a driver’s license in Sweden, you must be 18 years old. The duration of the driver’s license theory test is 50 minutes, and the test consists of 65 questions and an additional five trial questions. Attempting the trial questions leads to evaluation and does not count toward the result of the test. An additional 5 questions are for trial purposes. The passing percentage that you have to secure is 80%, and out of 65 questions, you need to get 52 of them correctly.  

Steps to Obtain the Driver’s License in Sweden 

  1. Eye Test: Before you apply for a driver’s learner’s permit, you must clear the eye examination by a licensed optician. 
  2. Obtain a Learner’s Permit: A learner’s permit is a requirement for taking driving lessons.  
  3. Introductory Training: Before you practice driving privately, you should undergo introductory training. Introductory training is also known as supervisor training. The supervisor should be at least 24 years old and should hold a valid driver’s license for the vehicle that you will practice driving. The introductory training is valid for up to 5 years from the date of completion.
  4. Start Practicing Driving: By Practicing driving early, whether privately or at driving school, exploring your knowledge of driving lessons will increase your chances of passing the practical driving test.
  5. Book an Appointment for Risk Training: The risk training has two parts, which is Risk One and Risk Two. These two must be valid and completed when you attempt your theory test and driving test.
  6. Study for the Theory Test: The earlier you start studying, the better you will get ready for the Swedish Driving Theory Test. 
  7. Book an Appointment for the Driving Test: Before you take the driving test, you must pass the theory test. You must pass the knowledge test within four months as the theory test validity is four months. If you have not passed the theory test within this period, then you must retake the test.
  8. Taking the Risk Training (Part 1 and Part 2): Risk training is theoretical training. The risk training covers how alcohol, drugs, stress, passengers, and mobile phones affect your driving.
  9. Attempt the Theory Test: In the Swedish Driving Theory Test, you need to show your theoretical knowledge of traffic safety, traffic rules, vehicle knowledge and maneuvering, environment, and personal conditions. You must pass the theory test, in order to take the driving test.
  10. Driving Test: Driving test is completely practical. This test is taken to get to know if you can handle a vehicle in traffic and drive safely or not. The driving test is to check whether you have the required driving skills.
  11. Collect Your Driver’s License: After the completion and passing of the driving test, your driving license will be sent to your nearest post office. Collect your driver’s license yourself in five days by post, while collecting it you must show valid identification.
